This was a general assembly held to elect the leadership for the first half of the term; the chairman candidates were Song Hyeong-gon, a four-term member from Goheung, and Jeon Gyeong-seon, a three-term member from Mokpo. As a result of the primary election, Candidate Song Hyeong-gon secured a total of 65 votes, easily defeating Candidate Jeon Gyeong-seon, who received only 17 votes, and was confirmed as the Democratic Party's candidate for the inaugural chairmanship. As expected, Candidate Song Hyeong-gon, who won the clash for chairmanship, put "cooperation and integration" at the forefront. Currently, Min Hyung-bae, the first mayor-elect of the unified city, has announced an organizational restructuring plan in which the planning and political affairs organizations are located in Gwangju, the official address of the unified city is in Suncheon, and two vice mayors are assigned to Namak.
