We are living in a time when many things are labeled "smart." "Smart" is an adjective that comes from the world of technology and qualifies not only phones and other machines, but also a way of thinking. The constellation of meanings linked to "smart" is rapidly expanding: it designates more efficient and integrated uses, but also anything interesting and up-to-date, flexible and adaptable. But what exactly do we mean when we juxtapose this qualifier with cities? How should cities deal with new technologies and the use of data, much of it personal? Is any use of integrated technology indicative of greater city intelligence? What are the best practices we already know? These questions will be at the heart of the lecture. [The speaker is a] Doctor and Master in Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of São Paulo (USP). Graduated in Law and Philosophy, also from USP. Professor with exclusive dedication at Insper. Visiting professor at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. Researcher at the Brazilian Center for Analysis and Planning - CEBRAP and principal investigator at the Maria Sibylla Merian Centre - Mecila. At Insper, she coordinates the Urban Issues Center of the Center for Regulation and Democracy and co-coordinates the Master Plan Observatory.
