Closed Doors & Open Purpose: Why God Redirects Your Steps

You prayed. You planned. You did everything right. And God still closed the door. Acts 16 shows why that closed door is not rejection. Have you ever ended up somewhere you never planned to be? In Acts 16, the apostle Paul is on his second missionary journey, doing everything right, when the Holy Spirit stops him. Twice. He is kept from preaching in Asia, then blocked from entering Bithynia. Two closed doors, and no explanation. This message walks through what Paul does next, and what it means for anyone whose own plans have hit a wall. Questions this sermon answers: What does it mean when God closes a door on something good? Is a closed door from God a rejection, or a redirection? How did Paul find God's direction after two clear no's? Why did God send Paul to Philippi, a place he never planned to go? When Paul finally follows the redirection, he reaches Philippi and meets three people who could not be more different: Lydia, a wealthy businesswoman whose heart God opens; an enslaved girl, exploited for profit, set free in the name of Jesus; and a hardened Roman jailer who asks, in the middle of an earthquake, what he must do to be saved. Paul and Silas, beaten and imprisoned, worship at midnight, and every chain in that prison comes loose. Out of three people who would never have belonged together, God births the church at Philippi. Years later, Paul writes back to them the promise of Philippians 1: he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion. If you are standing at a closed door right now, this message is an invitation to keep walking. God's no is not the end of your story. It is the beginning of a redirection you cannot yet see.
