Emergent Technologies and Design MSc/MArch – Projects Review Exhibition 2026

Milad Showkatbakhsh, Programme Head of the Emergent Technologies and Design MSc/MArch, introduces the work on display as part of Projects Review 2026, the AA’s annual exhibition of student work. The exhibition showcases research, design and prototyping developed across both the MSc and MArch programmes, demonstrating how students work collaboratively while engaging with different levels of investigation. MSc projects focus on material systems, prototyping and the physical principles underpinning design, while MArch projects explore how these systems can be implemented within architectural and urban contexts. Featuring a series of digital and physical prototypes, material experiments and computational design workflows, the exhibition highlights the programme’s integration of simulation, fabrication and design research. Students investigate how natural systems generate form and behaviour, using these processes as drivers for innovative architectural solutions. The exhibition also presents the programme’s annual design-build project, which this year explores mycelium-based composites and robotic fabrication, culminating in a full-scale pavilion installed in Bedford Square. Through experimentation with bio-based materials, advanced manufacturing techniques and computational methods, students develop new approaches to architecture at the intersection of technology, ecology and design.
