Conservation and Reuse MA/PGDip – Projects Review Exhibition 2026

Rod Heyes, Programme Head of the Conservation and Reuse MA, introduces the work on display as part of Projects Review 2026, the AA’s annual exhibition of student work. The exhibition showcases a series of live repair and conservation projects undertaken by students at Hooke Park, the AA’s woodland campus in Dorset. Working through a process of investigation, design and implementation, students addressed real maintenance challenges across the site, including the repair of a timber bench, the conservation of a deteriorating workshop porch, and interventions to a leaking roof structure. Through hands-on construction, students developed practical skills in timber conservation, traditional repair techniques, Japanese timber splicing methods, and building maintenance, while engaging critically with questions of reuse, longevity and stewardship. The exhibition also presents a selection of essays and research developed alongside the practical work, highlighting the programme’s integration of theory and practice.
