In this joint CCEM-CCM webinar, Dr Ian Robinson from the National Physical Laboratory (NPL), United Kingdom, presents "In memory of Dr Bryan Kibble: an outstanding metrologist." The webinar commemorates Dr Bryan Kibble, the originator of the Kibble balance, ten years after his passing, on 28 April 2016. His work played a central role in enabling the replacement of the last artefact standard in the International System of Units: the International Prototype of the Kilogram. Dr Robinson explores Dr Kibbleโs pioneering work on the Kibble balance and its importance in the 2019 revision of the SI, in which the kilogram was redefined in terms of a fixed numerical value of the Planck constant. The presentation also covers Dr Kibbleโs contributions to precise measurements of AC impedance using coaxial techniques.
