Tracking $8.6 Billion: Inside the U.S. Global Health Spending Watch Dashboard

After the dismantling of USAID (United States Agency for International Development) last year by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), billions in global health funding got stuck in limbo. I analyze public data at U.S. Global Health Spending Watch (https://globalhealthwatch.org/) to show how $8.6 billion in global health obligations had to be quickly pushed out the door at the end of the fiscal year. That resulted in the consolidation of funding to large, U.S. based organizations. Smaller NGOs in the Global South have been largely abandoned, without resources needed for effective HIV, TB, and malaria control programs.
