A musical genre of dance with lyrics, directly related to the Spanish paso doble, it emerged in the early 19th century but became popular in the 20th. It is in simple duple meter (2/4), its name derives from the way the dance is performed, and it was used in parades and processions. It is primarily performed by military bands and is also considered the anthem of the region.
