BROKEN DOWN!!! LIMP MODE || Isuzu Mu-x/D-max Common Issue - P2453 Differential Pressure Sensor Fault

G'day Guys and Gals! In this video I show you an issue that I had recently with my 2018 Isuzu Mu-x. My wife was driving the vehicle home from work when it went into limp mode with the engine light and traction control lights on. She drove to a safe spot and gave me a call. I went down to the break down with my OBDII scan tool and scanned the vehicle. The vehicle had 1 engine fault code and 2 traction control fault codes which were subsequent codes because of the engine fault. The OBDII scan tool read out fault codes P2453 Differential Pressure sensor circuit range/performance. The Differential pressure sensors on the Isuzu Mu-x and D-max are a very common fault or issue. I have heard of quite a few differential pressure sensors failing on the Isuzu Mu-x and d-max. I still have 2 months left on my vehicle manufacturers warranty so I was very lucky that it failed when it did and it was close to home. So the next day I booked the vehicle into my local Isuzu service department for diagnosis by them for warranty repairs. As I didn't have a booking I ended up leaving the Isuzu Mu-x with them hoping they could squeeze it in if they had a cancellation. Later in the week on Friday afternoon I got a call at 4pm saying that the Mu-x was all fixed and ready to go! I was absolutely blown away by the customer service and work done by Pacific Gympie with this repair. They did outstanding work getting the vehicle in, diagnosed, warranty approved and repaired in 2 days without a booking. So what failed? As I said before I have heard of the differential pressure sensors failing and that it was a common issue. The Isuzu service center replaced the Differential pressure sensor and the 2 rubber hoses that goes down to the hard lines on the DPF. They also carried out a DPF regen or burn off and checked that the system was functioning correctly. So what does a Differential pressure sensor do? A diesel particulate filter (DPF) differential pressure sensor measures exhaust backpressure and signals when the power-train control module (PCM) should begin a regeneration process to clear the filter of diesel particulate matter (DPM), or soot. The DPF differential pressure sensor plays an important role in keeping the DPF functioning properly. A clogged DPF is not only a costly repair, but it can have catastrophic consequences to your diesel engine as well. To understand how the DPF differential pressure sensor works, why it fails, and how to replace it when it does, let’s briefly discuss the DPF. The Differential pressure sensor failed on my vehicle with about 117k on the odometer. it through the fault code P2453 Differential pressure sensor circuit range/performance code. The range/performance codes generally mean that the electronic component has failed. Unlike open circuit, short circuit codes that can lead to wiring issues or power and earth supply issues. The range/performance codes generally mean that the sensor is getting its power and earth and signal back to the ecu but the signal is out of range or there is an issues with the signal. The Differential pressure sensor has 2 rubber hoses that go down to the hard lines on the DPF. The hard lines then go to the top and bottom of the DPF to measure exhaust pressure and the difference in pressure to enable the ecu to calculate the soot loading of the Diesel Particulate Filter. The rubber hoses run close to the exhaust system and can potentially deteriorate over time. The Isuzu dealer replaced the differential pressure sensor and the rubber hoses with this repair. Luckily I had 2 months left on my warranty and this issue has been fixed by my local Isuzu dealer.
