In 1700, Louis XIV was at Versailles. His palace was furnished by the greatest artists of France and Europe. His court was unparalleled. His cabinetmaker, André-Charles Boulle, created marquetry furniture of absolute splendor using his metal marquetry process. He became a master of this technique, famous for it for centuries to come.
