Lala Abgaryan on Impunity

Preventing impunity is essential to stopping human rights violations. In 2022, Lala’s sister, Gayane, was tortured, killed, and mutilated by Azerbaijani forces. Since then, Lala has dedicated herself to advocating for victims of conflict-related sexual violence and for accountability in Armenia. We met with Lala and other survivors in December 2025 on the margins of the ICC's Assembly of State Parties. Together, with the Coalition for the International Criminal Court and the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), we discussed survivor-centred justice, confronting impunity, and the need to defend the ICC.
