The famous Svartifoss waterfall is also located nearby. Some other important and interesting facts about Skaftafellsjökull: ​1. Hiking and Trail ​S1 Trail: The trail from the visitor center to the glacier is called the S1 Trail. ​Distance and Time: It is an easy and flat trail of about 3.7 to 4 km (round trip), which takes 1 to 1.5 hours to complete. ​View: At the end of the trail you will find a glacial lagoon (brackish lake), in which small pieces of ice (Icebergs) are often seen floating. ​2. Filming (Pop Culture) ​This area is famous worldwide for its unique and beautiful glacial landscape. ​Parts of major productions such as the famous TV series Game of Thrones (scenes from 'North of the Wall') and the film Interstellar have been shot here. ​3.
