ਸੋਲਹੇਮਾਸੰਦੂਰ ਜਹਾਜ਼ ਦਾ ਮਲਬਾ Solheimasandur Plane Wreck

#plane #Sólheimasandur #vik The most famous plane wreck in Iceland is the Sólheimasandur DC-3 Plane Wreck. It is located on a black sand beach very close to Vík and is a very special attraction for tourists. Key information: History: This was a Douglas C-117 plane of the U.S. Navy that crashed here in 1973 due to running out of fuel. Fortunately, all members of the plane survived the crash. Location: It is located just off the Ring Road (Route 1), between Skógafoss and Vík. How to get there? There is a parking lot next to the main road. There are two ways to get to the wreck from there: Hike: You have to walk about 4 km (one way) from the parking lot to the ship. It takes a total of 2 to 2.5 hours to get there and back. The path is completely flat but the wind blows very strongly there. Shuttle Bus: If you don't want to walk, there is also an official shuttle bus from the parking lot that takes you there in a few minutes (you have to buy a ticket for it). ⚠ Important note: The weather there changes very quickly, so be sure to bring good warm and waterproof clothes. It is forbidden to climb on the ship as it is now quite old and weak. Full information about the walking route and shuttle bus to reach the Sólheimasandur shipwreck is given below: 1. The Hike If you decide to hike, it's a very different and peaceful experience, but it's important to be mentally prepared. Distance and Time: The one-way distance from the parking lot to the plane is about 4 kilometers (2.5 miles). The total distance is 8 kilometers, which takes about 2 to 2.5 hours. What's the trail like?: The trail is completely straight and level, with black gravel. There are yellow markers along the way, so there's no fear of getting lost. View: All around is an endless plain of black sand, which looks like another planet. Challenge: There are no trees or grass along the way. If the wind is blowing strongly or it is raining, this walk can be quite tiring. 2. The Shuttle Bus If you are short on time or want to avoid bad weather/strong winds, the shuttle bus is the best option. Timing: This bus usually runs from the parking lot every 30 to 45 minutes from 10:00 AM to 5:00 or 6:00 PM. Travel time: By bus, you can reach the wreck in just 10 to 15 minutes. Tickets: You can book your ticket online in advance from the kiosk in the parking lot or from there. It is best to get a round-trip ticket. Advantage: It drops you right next to the plane, which saves you a lot of time and battery (of your phone/camera). 💡 Special tips for you: Check the weather: Be sure to check the wind speed on vedur.is before you go. If the wind is too strong, use the bus instead of walking. Photography: If you want to avoid the crowds and take good photos of the plane, walking early in the morning (before the bus starts) can be a good idea.
