Officials in Tilden are monitoring the Frio River as additional flooding remains possible

Emergency officials continue to monitor rising rivers across South Texas as floodwaters move downstream following last week's catastrophic flooding in the Texas Hill Country. A FLOOD WARNING continues for the Frio River near Derby affecting Frio County and the Nueces River near Asherton affecting Dimmit County. Nueces River The Nueces River at Cotulla remains at major flood stage, with several roads in and around the city still underwater. Data shows the river rose above 28 feet overnight, well above flood stage. Law enforcement closed flooded roads, and emergency officials continue to monitor the Nueces River and Mustang Creek, with rescue boats on standby. La Salle County firefighters are recommending residents on Jay Street, Martinez Street, Copp Street and Guadalupe Street evacuate because of the rising Nueces River. A shelter has been opened at the Alexander Convention Center for residents who evacuate. Data shows the river rose above 23 feet overnight. Officials said the river gauge malfunctioned Wednesday morning and is no longer providing accurate readings. Emergency coordinators are preparing for the river to rise above 28 feet. No evacuations have been ordered. County leaders said infrastructure improvements made after the 2002 flood are helping keep roads open and homes out of danger. Most of the rising water is flowing into creeks and open fields rather than neighborhoods. An emergency response center is ready if needed, with about 150 first responders available for rescues and evacuations. Officials reported flooding on Frio Street and the feeder street off the Frio River. Temporary repairs were completed Tuesday, and a new motor was installed Monday night. Only one pump is currently supplying water to the city's distribution system. Water conservation restrictions remain in place until permanent repairs can be completed after floodwaters recede. Kerrville The city of Kerrville is warning residents and people living downstream to avoid Town Creek after a sewer overflow contaminated the water near Highway 27 and Water Street. Flooding has prevented crews from accessing the area to make permanent repairs, though a new access ramp has recently been rebuilt.
