500 Miles
On January 3, 2017, Heroes and Horses - a Montana-based nonprofit organization - embarked on the first stage of integrating 16 wild mustangs into their program. The Heroes and Horses Crew, accompanied by Montana State University Veterinarian, Dr. Shannon Moreaux, former Heroes and Horses Veteran Program Manager, Mike Reilly (SEAL), Val Geisler, Russ Lewis, Chris Douglas, horse trainer Ramon Becerra, and The Pursuit Society film crew, traveled to Burns, Oregon, where H&H adopted 16 wild mustangs from the Oregon BLM. This highly trained group put these mustangs through a rigorous gentling process in hopes of being able to integrate them into the current H&H herd, and utilize them in the 2017 Heroes and Horses veteran program, which began in June 2017. The final phase of this training was a 560 mile pack trip through some of the most unforgiving landscape in New Mexico and Arizona.
