We had to wait for 90 minutes before we were confident to lay Shad out and inflate. We inflated infront of some trees to get some shelter from the wind. This can be exceptionally tricky as the wind filters through the trees then curls over the top, when inflating a balloon in this situation can cause bucketloads of what we call false lift. This is essentially where you have insufficient heat inside the balloon but the wind sucks the balloon upward. I didn’t show how this happened as it can be quite violent looking but as long as you have dedicated crew and all work together, flight can be achieved.
