VIRTUD DE LA ESPERANZA EN EL SACERDOTE (Mini-Retiro Sacerdotal de las Virtudes Teologales, 2 de 3)
HOPE Regarding strength A feeling of being "burned out" or "at the limit." The causes are many. We can point to the following: Overload of requests for attention, listening, comfort, guidance, healing. An overabundance of groups, movements, and associations that want the priest's services, sometimes exclusively and almost exclusively. A feeling of bureaucratic sterility due to an excess of meetings, activities, courses, and ongoing training. Loss or serious reduction of moments of leisure and restorative rest. Lack of self-discipline; a tendency to procrastinate. Mediocre effort is more tiring than effort that seeks excellence. Regarding joy It can happen that a certain bad mood, bitterness, or pessimism creeps in along the way. Among the most frequent causes are: The experience of stagnation or even failure: something like trying to sell a product that hasn't worked for you. Perplexity or discouragement in the face of the reality of the Church: either because things aren't happening as one would like to see, or because tensions and divisions fester instead of being resolved. Over the years, feelings of loss or grief tend to accumulate: relatives and friends who pass away and whom no one replaces. Deteriorating health and a decline in mental abilities, especially memory and intelligence. When one has made an internal promise of advancement (or ecclesiastical career) and doesn't achieve it, a deep sense of frustration can easily arise. Recommendations The general idea is: holistic self-care; that is: 1. physical health through diet and physical activity; 2. healthy and stable interpersonal relationships; 3. reasonable and consistent habits; 4. intellectual stimulation; and 5. daily spiritual practice. There are virtues that help remarkably: 1. Humility and self-knowledge; 2. Create and cultivate spaces of order and justice around us. 3. Purity and equanimity: emotional, sexual, or affective storms leave deep and, at times, devastating scars. 4. A sense of humor. 5. Initiate and sustain creative activities. *** BECOME A MEMBER of the Channel!
