VN24 - 04-07-2025 (D/M/Y) - Schwerte / Germany - Early in the morning at around 5:40 a.m., a 20-year-old man apparently stole a roadworthy public bus from the premises of a bus company and drove it without permission and without a valid driver's license through the city of Schwerte. Traveling east on Schützenstraße, the young man intended to turn left onto Sölder Straße and continue his journey northbound. At the intersection, however, he first drove too wide a curve into a signpost and a hedge, then apparently did not steer straight again, but continued to the left, causing the bus to cross the opposite lane, where fortunately no car was coming at that moment, and veered further to the left onto the sidewalk. There, the bus collided with a massive street light pole, which it completely knocked down and which then became stuck under the vehicle. The bus was finally stopped when it collided with an electrical connection box in the area of a 10,000-volt line and two Telekom switch cabinets with telephone, Internet, and fiber optic technology, which it also severely damaged. According to information from the press office of the Unna district police, the incident will later be classified as a case of “unauthorized operation.” A salvage company had to completely lift the bus to free it from its predicament.
