[Question Received] I would like to ask for your advice regarding one of our staff members. I am the representative and manager of a home-visit nursing station specializing in psychiatry. During meetings, this staff member frequently contradicts the manager's statements and makes comments that disregard the station's policies, and this is starting to affect the other nurses. Up until now, I have tried to address their anxieties by treating them as an individual and engaging in discussions. However, they react negatively to this, and they seem to be suffering considerably mentally. I try to clarify what they are able to do and what they are not, and praise and express gratitude for what they are able to do. They respond to this. On the other hand, there are areas where they are not performing well in their work, and I try to carefully ask them "why they cannot do it" and "how they feel about it." I try to be careful with my wording, but their response to this is minimal, and I am at a loss as to how to handle it. This staff member has experience in psychiatric hospitals and psychiatric home-visit nursing, and I appreciate that they are willing to share their knowledge and experience. However, her words and actions are often driven by a desire for self-acceptance, resulting in deviations from station policies and numerous inconsistencies in her statements and actions. Furthermore, she is influencing other nurses, and we are concerned about how to support them.
