Congress Flag Falls As Sonia Gandhi Unfurls It

The Indian National Congress was formed on 28th December 1885. On 28th December 2021 it celebrated its 137th Foundation day. An event was held at the AICC headquarters in New Delhi. Senior Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Mallikarjun Kharge were among those present at the party headquarters. However, a video from the event went viral on social media. A video showed Sonia Gandhi pulling the flag to unfurl it as a party member assists her. As hundreds of workers watched, the flag fell into Gandhi’s hands. Showing presence of mind, Sonia Gandhi along with party treasurer Pawan Bansal and AICC general secretary KC Venugopal held the party tricolour in their hand and displayed it briefly. There were chants of “Congress party zindabad” in the background. The Congress is gearing up anew for the 2024 General Elections and hopes to build momentum by performing well in the coming assembly polls. In a video message, Sonia Gandhi asked members to rededicate themselves to the principles of the organisation. On some Hindu religious leaders hurling abuses at Mahatma Gandhi and hailing his assassin as the symbol of truth and religion, Sonia Gandhi said that Congress shall not remain a mute spectator and will not allow anybody to destroy the rich heritage of the country.
