Facts from this report: The beginning in Vietnam: Christoph came to Vietnam 15 years ago with only 200 euros in start-up capital. Without speaking the language, he worked his way up in the restaurant industry and successfully opened the "Esco Beach Club" in Da Nang in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic (2020). Freedom vs. bureaucracy: Christoph hasn't had a mailbox for 15 years. He loves the freedom he enjoys outside of German norms and regulations. He doesn't have a traditional pension plan – his business and his skills are his retirement savings. Living & Family: He's married to a Vietnamese woman and lives in his Vietnamese in-laws' house. Family ties are strong in Asia – people try to stay together as a family under one roof for as long as possible. Self-Employment in Asia: As a boss, you have to adapt. Christoph explains that even with big ambitions, you often have to adjust your pace to the local work culture.
