Our friend Christian pulled the plug, left Da Nang, and opted for the quieter life in Hoi An. We visit him in his new, three-story luxury pool villa and talk candidly about why he made the move, how much the house cost, and how everyday life in Vietnam changes when you settle far from the party beaches. Facts from this report: The pool villa in Hoi An: Christian rents a three-story house with three bedrooms (each with a bathroom and bathtub), a huge eat-in kitchen, a guest toilet, and a private swimming pool. The cost: The rent for the villa in Hoi An is approximately 25 million dong (just under 800 euros). That's exactly the same price he was last charged in Da Nang for a simple two-room apartment after a drastic rent increase. Hoi An vs. Da Nang: While Da Nang is becoming increasingly loud and crowded (parties, beach clubs, heavy traffic), Hoi An (about 40 minutes away) offers a more tranquil life amidst nature, rivers, and rice paddies – ideal for those seeking peace and quiet. New noise law in Vietnam: To curb noise pollution in residential areas, a new law prohibits karaoke after 10 p.m. Violators can call the police directly.
