ICLR Friday Forum: Climate Resilience in Canadian Insurance & Construction (December 12, 2025)

On December 12, 2025, ICLR hosted a Friday Forum webinar titled 'Advancing Climate Resilience in the Canadian Insurance and Construction Industries', led by ICLR's Director of Research Dan Sandink. The Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR) and the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) created the Resilient Homes Task Force (RHTF) to advance climate resilience in Canadian housing. Checklists, visual guides, and construction documents were developed to support adoption of resilience options by builders, contractors, and insurers. Guidelines were tested in field trials, and outputs are shaping resilience practices and informing national standards. ICLR/CHBA continue to iterate resilience options so they can be embedded in construction workflows. Dan Sandink is ICLR’s Director of Research. He manages ICLR’s PIEVC Program and co-chairs Canada’s National Infrastructure and Buildings Working Group. He studied geography and land use planning at the University of Guelph, Western University, and the University of Toronto.
