Tracking Angle Track Du Jour Is "Third Uncle" From "Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy"—U.K. O.G.

I promised a record a day and I'm doing my best to fulfill that but it's been a tough few days that included a backed up sewage pipe, a "home colonoscopy" putting a dog to sleep, a power failure limited to my street, and having blood drawn for an annual check-up. As detailed in the intro to playback of "Third Uncle" From an Original 1974 U.K. "Sun-ray" U.K. Island pressing of Eno's "Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy" produced by Eno, co-produced by Phil Manzanera. This was back when Eno was young, adventurous, fun-seeking and free. He's gotten kind of stodgy with age, I'm afraid, but back then he and graphic artist Peter Schmidt had come up with their "Oblique Strategies" cards and they guided the musicians, who included Robert Wyatt, Phil Collins, Andy Mackay and two of the Winkies—Freddie Smith and Brian Torrington plus others as they created this fanciful, loosely plotted "spy adventure" album. "Taking Tiger Mountain By Strategy" did nothing on the charts in the U.K. or America, which was a pathetic reception for such a creative, adventurous record. Rhett Davies ( Roxy Music's"Avalon", etc.) engineered at Island Studios so the sound is outstanding, though that's not the case on the recent 1/2 speed mastered double 45 Eno catalog reissues cut by Miles Showell from "best available sources"—as I explain in the video. Again the cartridge was the Audio-Technica AT MCD1, plus Wilson Benesch Graviton tonearm, CH Precision P10 phono preamp, digitized using a Lynx HiLo A/D converter. PLAY IT LOUD!
