VICTORIAN GOLDFIELDS RAILWAY - WINTER SOLSTICE TRAIN - 20 JUNE 2026

In recent years the Victorian Goldfields Railway, which operates on the former Victorian Railways branch line between Castlemaine and Maldon, has operated a Winter Solstice train in conjunction with the Maldon Machinery Museum. This year the train operated on Saturday, 20 June, a cold but sunny winter's day. I volunteered to work as the Station Master at Castlemaine for the evening, which was largely a ceremonial task, and had time to video the train once it had departed from Castlemaine. Passengers had three hours in Maldon to enjoy a bonfire before returning to Castlemaine shortly after 10.00 p.m. The highlight of the return leg was the listening stop at Muckleford, truly a station in the middle of know where, where the sounds of the night are fantastic! A fun evening was had by all!
