Born into a noble family, she was a virtuous wife and mother of eight children (one of her daughters was Saint Catherine of Sweden). After 28 years of marriage, when her husband died, she renounced all worldly possessions and turned to a life of complete asceticism. She founded the famous nunnery called the 'Order of the Most Holy Savior' (Brigitine Sisters). From an early age, Bridget had miraculous visions of Jesus' crucifixion. Jesus revealed to her the 5480 wounds on Jesus' body and 15 prayers to be prayed in memory of them (the 15 Prayers of St. Bridget). She spent the last years of her life in Rome, where she spoke out strongly against the church crisis that had occurred when the popes had left Rome for Avignon, France, and played a decisive role in bringing the pope back to Rome. AD This saint, who died on July 23, 1373, was declared the official Co-Patroness of Europe by Pope John Paul II in recognition of her great contributions to the Church.
