Gurdjieff - Historical Documentary with Archival Footage

Georgij Ivanovič Gurdžiev George Gurdjieff (1866–1949) was a philosopher, spiritual teacher, and composer. This original historical documentary presents rare archival footage of the Gurdjieff Movements together with music composed by Gurdjieff and Thomas de Hartmann. This film was made by Jean-Claude Lubtchansky, a close associate of Madame de Salzmann, with the support of the Gurdjieff Institute in France. The film sets out the basis of Gurdjieff’s teaching in his own words. For the Gurdjieff Movements see:    • Gurdjieff Movements – Madame de Salzmann a...   Official website: https://www.gurdjieff.am/ Gurdjieff was born in 1867 in Gyumri, Armenia. His father Ivan was Greek and his mother Yeva was Armenian. From an early age he set out in search of knowledge that he believed had once been known to humanity but had later been forgotten. His travels took him to Tibet, India, Egypt, and to monasteries in Asia. What he discovered is set out in In Search of the Miraculous, written by his pupil Piotr Ouspensky. The essential message is that human beings are not truly conscious of themselves, but live in a state of waking sleep, caught in habits, worries, and daydreams. Gurdjieff taught that it is possible to wake up from this habitual state to become aware and sense that we are alive and living on a wonderful planet. In addition to composing music and teaching temple dances to his pupils, later known as the Gurdjieff Movements, he wrote three books: Beelzebub’s Tales to His Grandson; Meetings with Remarkable Men; and Life Is Only Real, Then, When “I Am”. Gurdjieff died in Paris on 29 October 1949. An aphorism hung in the hall where he taught his pupils, which stated: “Here there are neither Russians nor English, Jews nor Christians, but only those who pursue one aim: to be able to be.” A free PDF of In Search of the Miraculous is available at www.gurdjieff.am, where the film can also be viewed in French, Spanish, and Portuguese.
