There are 2 washouts to watch out for. 1. It is the big ~8ft drop, it gets muddy and slippery after rain so be very careful when crossing. 2. The big washout on the right side of the road, it makes the road very narrow, it is advisable to have someone spot you when crossing especially if you have a wide vehicle. The road becomes narrower, the rocks become larger and sharper, and there are more overgrown plants once you cross the two main washouts. THE START OF THE TRAIL From the Upper trailhead parking going in to the woods, someone posted a note on a tree. There are 2 paths to choose from: 1. East Trail: This is the most straightforward and fastest trail, however it is muddy and more difficult to travel on depending on the season. It also ruins habitat. 2. The West trail is a longer and more difficult trail; it requires you to crawl on rocks and boulders, which makes it difficult. To avoid getting lost, you can follow the signs or have your map downloaded on your phone. If you intend to trek the peak, I would advise starting the hike early or perhaps camping overnight. We arrived late and were unable to hike the summit due to time constraints, and we tried to avoid hiking down in the dark because the trail becomes more hazardous in the dark.
