How I made our rear lathe spindle chuck ︱LATHE ACCESSORY BUILD
Follow me in the process of building the new rear spindle support chuck on our GMC 26-120 lathe. For this build, I used a Bison 16" three-jaw chuck. This build is required due to dealing with long materials that we occasionally machine, requiring the end close to the main chuck. I was inspired to do this build by the 3-jaw rear spindle chucks i have encountered on oil field lathes. I had found a few 3-Jaw chucks with a large enough spindle bore (4") however they were far too expensive and shipping to me would be outrageous. I wanted a simple build that could be modified to fit a lighter chuck at a future point, as well as not having to modify the lathe. Due to the chuck only being installed when needed there will be no excessive load added to the machine. In a future build i will be making an optional 4 jaw as well.
