Our van is a VW Crafter Long Wheel Base LWB 4 Motion (4x4/AWD) Van. In this video, I take on a big task in my van build: installing the last two large Safari windows. After the challenges I faced installing a smaller window earlier—where things went a bit wrong due to the inner frame being too thick—I’ve learned a lot. Despite the stress of that previous attempt, I feel much more confident this time around. The windows I chose are from Jackson Leisure, and they’re specifically designed for camper vans with a curved surface. They’re double-glazed, made of plastic, and come with integrated blackout blinds and mosquito nets. One of the reasons I picked these windows is because they’re more durable and secure than glass, and they give the van that rugged "adventure" look, which I love. They also offer great value for the price compared to some of the premium windows on the market. The installation process is pretty involved. I had to cut two large holes in the van—one in the side door and one on the passenger side—which is always a nerve-wracking step. Then, I carefully applied silicon around the frames, which is tricky because no one ever really shows how much silicon you should use. I ended up using a bit too much, but I’d rather have too much than too little to make sure the windows are well-sealed. During the install, there were a few minor issues, like overspill from the primer and the silicon, but I managed to clean it all up with some elbow grease. After getting both windows installed, I ran a water test to make sure everything was sealed properly, and I’m happy to report that there were no leaks. Of course, the real test will come when I’m driving through heavy rain, but for now, everything looks good. At the end of the video, I break down the costs of the different parts I’ve used in the build so far, including the MaxxAir Fan Dome, the Safari windows, and a smaller trade glass window for the bathroom. The MaxxAir Fan Dome was about £130 with silicon, the two Safari windows were £600, and the small bathroom window, which was the only one I could find that fit, was around £200. I think the Safari windows were a great value, especially with the added features like the blinds and fly nets. Overall, I’m really pleased with how the windows turned out, and I think they add a lot to the look and functionality of the van. I invite everyone watching to follow along with the rest of my van build journey, and I appreciate all the support and feedback.
