The Truth About MOT Advisories – Are Some Garages Overdoing It? In this video I explain exactly why it failed, the repairs that were carried out, and compare the previous MOT with this year's result. What makes this MOT especially interesting is that the testing station was being audited during the inspection, with the tester and inspection process being monitored. That gave me confidence that the inspection was carried out thoroughly and nothing significant was overlooked. One of the biggest surprises was seeing the advisory list shrink dramatically. Last year the car received 16 advisories. This year there were just 3 advisories, despite many of the previous advisory items not actually being repaired. It raises an interesting discussion: Are some MOT stations overly detailed? Should multiple similar items be grouped together instead of listed individually? Can excessively long advisory lists make a perfectly good car appear much worse than it really is? Does the wording of an MOT advisory affect resale value?
