Yamaha style creation tutorial part 12. This is a tutorial video for Yamaha style creator. it explains how to use the step editor in Yamaha style creator. Step edit page has a lot of features and because of that this tutorial is split into 2 videos. This is the first video in the series. In this video the step editor basics and the step size are covered. In the next video, the advanced topics like updating note values and velocity, inserting and deleting notes, copying and pasting notes, managing control messages like expression, pitch bend wheel data and the step record mode will be explained. This video explains how to open the step editor for a specific track in the style creator, What are the values in the different columns in the step editor, how to manage the step size (the different values for position and note duration). The step editor displays the notes in a table view. The notes are listed one below another. There are different columns representing different values of each note. The first column is for the position of the note. It has three sub columns. First is for the bar number, second is the beat and third is the sub unit of the beat. Using this we can position the note in a specific position in a style. In the step editor one single beat is divided into 1920 sub units. This is used to set the position and the duration of the notes. if a notes duration is set to 1 beat it means that it is a quarter note or a a crotchet. It is represented as 1.0000 on the step edit page. If it is 960 (half of 1920 and represented as 0.0960), it means it is an 8th note. For a 16th note, it would be 0.480. For making a doted crotchet which is 1.5 beats length it would be 1.960 on the step edit page in the duration column.
