The Real Saint Patrick: Slave, Bishop, and Missionary | Church History Hub

Who really was Saint Patrick? Beyond the snakes and the shamrocks, the man himself left behind exactly two documents. Together they run to roughly eight thousand words. This video goes back to those primary sources, Patrick's own Confessio and his Letter to Coroticus, to trace what we can actually verify about his life: his capture as a teenager, six years of slavery in Ireland, his escape, his return as a missionary, and the long, difficult thirty years that followed. Along the way, we examine the evidence for Palladius, the bishop sent to Ireland a year before Patrick's traditional arrival date, and trace exactly when the snake legend and the shamrock story actually entered the historical record.
