Each morning he launches his small wooden boat, hoping to catch enough fish to feed his family and keep his mounting debts at bay. But the ocean has turned barren. Nets return empty, storms grow frequent, and with every passing season his future slips further away. One evening an old fisherman—dismissed by the villagers as a madman—shares the tale of a forgotten stretch of ocean beyond the western shoals. "Sail until the gulls refuse to follow. Continue into the still water. Cast your nets only once... then come home." With nothing left to lose, the fisherman follows the old man's directions. Beyond the edge of the known sea, the water becomes impossibly still.
