The route follows the Pacific Crest Trail before branching to the summit, offering better parking and more scenery than the direct approach. At 5.3 miles round trip with moderate elevation gain, it's a solid half-day hike best done in spring or fall when temperatures are mild. The trailhead is at Penny Pines, about 90 minutes east of San Diego. Bring plenty of water since the exposed ridge offers little shade. --- Disclaimer: Some of these links are affiliate links where I'll earn a small commission if you make a purchase at no additional cost to you.
