Tu es déporté juif du Marais à Auschwitz-Birkenau — et c'est toute ta vie.
Paris, February 1943. Élie is seventeen years old, learning the fur trade in his father's workshop on rue des Rosiers. One night, French police inspectors climb the stairs. So begins a journey to Drancy, then to Auschwitz-Birkenau — a journey that 113 people from his convoy would never complete. Told in second person, this story follows the path of a young Jewish deportee from Paris's Marais district: the arrest, Drancy transit camp, Convoy 51, the selection ramp at Birkenau, the "Kanada" sorting Kommando, a bond formed with Dawid, a watchmaker from Kraków, the typhus epidemic, the October 1944 Sonderkommando uprising, the January 1945 death march, and the liberation of Buchenwald by the U.S. 6th Armored Division on April 11, 1945. Élie Katz is a composite character, but every historical event referenced in this video is documented: Convoy 51 departing from Drancy, the structure of the Birkenau camp, the October 7, 1944 Sonderkommando uprising, the January 18, 1945 evacuation, and the liberation of Buchenwald. 📚 Sources and further reading: Mémorial de la Shoah, Paris — https://www.memorialdelashoah.org Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum — https://www.auschwitz.org United States Holocaust Memorial Museum — https://www.ushmm.org Yad Vashem — https://www.yadvashem.org If this story moved you, subscribe so you don't miss any episode of The Other History — immersive accounts of the forgotten lives of history. #History #WW2 #Auschwitz #Holocaust #Deportation #TrueHistory #Paris history, world war 2, auschwitz, birkenau, holocaust, deportation, concentration camp, drancy, convoy 51, resistance, jewish history, historical account, WW2 history, history documentary, immersive history, pov history, history channel, liberation 1945, death march, sonderkommando, buchenwald, holocaust memorial, occupied france, ww2 france, untold history, war survivor story, yad vashem, holocaust museum, true story WW2, wartime history
