Ma rencontre avec Denise

The Last Ones is a series of short documentaries. Each episode features an encounter with one of the last survivors of the camps, who recounts their experiences during the war, their life afterward, the transmission of memory, and their perspective on the world today. Directed by Sophie Nahum and produced by HelloProd, this series gives a voice to the last survivors of the Holocaust. ---------------- Denise was born in 1932. She lived in Paris with a family of four children. Her mother had tuberculosis, so the public assistance services decided to take the three youngest children and send them to foster families in the Pyrenees. This was only supposed to last a few months, but the declaration of war changed the plan. She was taken in by a small village near Orthez. Upon discovering the tiny house in the countryside, with its dirt floor and no running water, Denise was very impressed, having lived in a comfortable and modern apartment. But Catherine, the lady who takes her in, though very modest, will do everything for the little Parisian girl's happiness. Separated from her parents from age 7 to 13, after the war Denise doesn't want to leave Catherine; the reunion with her parents will be very difficult and far below her expectations. Her older brother died in deportation. Her mother will never recover and will never again show love to the young girl.
