Maria Callas singing "Giudici ad Anna" in a rare remastering (Anna Bolena)
Highlighted comments from the commenters below: -123pailin: No wonder that 60 years later Maria Callas is still as present and as unchallenged than during her lifetime. The ladies who followed her know that all too well. And then as now her enemies are still hissing, praising others for the sake of praising. Sutherland (a real talent who unfortunately choose to follow the advice of her talentless husband thus depriving us of a truly unique talent), editha Gruberova, the soubrette who thinks she can do Norma or Anna Bolena, Beverly Sills who was an honest artist but lacked in tragic grandeur (not her fault) up to the likes of Netrebko who despite her beautiful voice and undeniable potential stopped midway to become a truly great artist (she makes me think of Giuseppe di Stefano who we all now was sort of lazy and relied solely on his splendid material) what can all those ladies oppose to the uniqueness of Maria Callas??? Soaring high notes void of meaning sung for the sake of singing them??? Oh yes, as Maria Callas said:" It is very easy to have a success by concentrating your efforts on those notes, but the rest?" Hers was an otherwordly view and now and than, "they" still want her radiated from the history of opera, because she was EVRYTHING opera is about.
