What better way to strengthen that alliance than by marrying one of the tsar's sisters after he divorced Josephine? In this video, we'll find out what happened when Napoleon (and the rest of the world) learned about Grand Duchess Catherine's secret engagement to Prince George of Oldenburg. That left Napoleon with just one eligible Romanov grand duchess: 14-year-old Anna. He had his ambassador keep a close eye on her, and was willing to sell out one of his most devoted allies to win her hand in marriage (and her brother as an ally). But there was just one problem: everything hinged on Anna's mother agreeing to the marriage. Maria Feodorovna had a decision to make.
