Mediodactylus kotschyi στη Θεσσαλονίκη

This is a Kotschy's gecko (Mediodactylus kotschyi), I found on Martch 10, 2018 on a wall in Thessaloniki. This species of gecko is common throughout Greece, with many subspecies in the different islands (the mainland species is Mediodactylus kotschyi bibroni), and is distinguish by its bowed digits with no adhesive pads and the wavy lines on its back. This one has a regenerated tail and seems to be a male. It is a nocturnal species, but in low temperatures it can become active during the day. I caught this one easily because it was slow from the cold. Then it got terrified and got immobile. Like other small geckos, it is insectivorous, lays pairs of eggs throughout summer and produces sounds for territorial defense, mating or when it is threatened. After the recording, I returned it back at the place I caught it. Αυτό είναι ένα κυρτοδάκτυλο σαμιαμίδι (Mediodactylus kotschyi), που βρήκα στις 10 Μαρτίου του 2018 πάνω σε έναν τοίχο στη Θεσσαλονίκη. Αυτό το είδος γκέκο είναι κοινό σε όλη την Ελλάδα, με πολλά υποείδη στα διάφορα νησιά (το υποείδος της ενδοχώρας είναι Mediodactylus kotschyi bibroni), και ξεχωρίζει από τα άλλα ελληνικά γκέκο από τα κυρτά του δάκτυλα χωρίς αναρριχητικές επιφάνειες και τις τεθλασμένες γραμμές στη ράχη του. Το συγκεκριμένο έχει το μεγαλύτερο μέρος της ουράς αναγεννημένο και φαίνεται αρσενικό. Είναι νυκτόβιο είδος, αλλά στις χαμηλές θερμοκρασίες μπορεί να δραστηριοποιηθεί και τη μέρα. Εγώ το έπιασα αυτό εύκολα επειδή ήταν νωχελικό από το κρύο. Έπειτα φοβήθηκε και παρέμεινε ακίνητο. Όπως και άλλα μικρά γκέκο, είναι εντομοφάγο, γεννάει διάδες αυγών το καλοκαίρι και παράγει ήχους για την υπεράσπιση της επικράτειας, το ζευγάρωμα ή όταν απειλείται. Μετά τη βιντεοσκόπηση το επέστρεψα στο σημείο όπου το βρήκα.
