Odejście od nabrzeża | holender
Leaving the yacht from the quay on a "Dutchman"—a mooring line extending from the midships of the yacht. This is a very effective maneuvering technique in more difficult conditions and when you need to sail precisely. On this yacht, we don't have a midship cleat—only a half-hawser—so we cleated the Dutchman on the bow cleat. Why is the Dutchman key to this maneuver? It allows for a controlled departure from the quay It establishes the yacht's rotation axis It allows for a safe departure even in strong winds It is the last to be handed over when the yacht is properly positioned. Despite the challenging conditions, yacht preparation, calm, and good communication were key to a successful maneuver. As part of the Independent Skipper workshops, I teach real, practical maneuvers that my students can encounter on their own cruises. I invite you to subscribe to my channel.
