Flavio Villani — In Memoriam - iii. Stuck in B♭

In Memoriam — Stuck in B♭ from the album In Memoriam by Flavio Villani Some emotions don't move in straight lines. Stuck in B♭ was born from the feeling of circling the same thoughts over and over again, unable to find a way through them. The music remains suspended around a single centre, almost as if time itself had slowed down. Even when the piece reaches its most intense moments, and breaks free from the initial four chords, it doesn't arrive at triumph or resolution. To me, it sounds more like someone gathering the strength to speak, only for the words to quietly dissolve again. There is something strangely peaceful in that acceptance. Looking back, I realise these improvisations were never trying to tell the story of overcoming grief. They simply bear witness to it. This piece, perhaps more than any other in the suite, lives in that space between movement and stillness, where nothing is fixed, yet nothing is fully released. Thank you for listening.
