Lockout Tagout Awareness Training | What Every Employee Needs to Know (OSHA Compliant)

This video provides Lockout/Tagout awareness training for affected employees and other employees who work near or share space with locked-out equipment but do not personally apply locks or tags. This training explains what Lockout/Tagout, commonly called LOTO, actually is, why it exists under OSHA's Control of Hazardous Energy standard, and what every non-authorized employee is responsible for when they encounter a locked-out machine. The training covers how to recognize lockout and tagout devices, what a locked-out machine may still contain even when it appears off, and the four core rules every employee must follow around active LOTO procedures. This is not authorized employee training and does not teach how to identify energy sources, apply locks, or perform verification procedures. What's covered in this video: An explanation of what Lockout/Tagout means and why the system exists to prevent unexpected machine startup or energy release during service and maintenance work. The real-world consequences of ignoring or bypassing LOTO devices, including crushed limbs, electrocutions, and amputations that have occurred when workers assumed equipment was safe. A breakdown of what a locked-out machine may still contain, including electrical charge in a capacitor, hydraulic pressure in a line, or a heavy component held up only by gravity. Visual guidance on recognizing lockout devices such as padlocks on circuit breakers and valve lockouts, and tagout devices such as red Danger Do Not Operate tags. Where lockout and tagout devices commonly appear, including electrical panels, control switches, pipe valves, and unplugged cords secured with plug lockout devices. The first core rule of awareness training: never touch, remove, or bypass another person's lockout or tagout device, even if asked to by a coworker or told the work is finished. The second core rule: never attempt to operate, test, or engage the controls of any equipment displaying a lockout or tagout device. The third core rule: report damaged locks, unusually long-standing tags, or anything that looks irregular about a lockout situation to a supervisor. The fourth core rule: stay clear of active maintenance work areas and avoid distracting technicians who are working on isolated equipment. A discussion of the ripple effect that occurs when a lock is bypassed, including the risk to the authorized employee actively working on the equipment who has no way of knowing their protection has been compromised. A closing review of all four responsibilities and guidance on what to do when an employee is unsure whether a device is a lockout or tagout device. Mentioned in this video: OSHA, Lockout Tagout, LOTO, Control of Hazardous Energy, authorized employee, affected employee, other employee, padlock, tagout tag, Danger Do Not Operate tag, circuit breaker lockout, valve lockout, plug lockout device, electrical panel, hydraulic pressure, capacitor, gravitational energy, energy control procedure, safety representative, supervisor, workplace safety training, awareness-level training
