"Untouchable" Players: Why Arsenal are Underachieving This Season

Arsenal Women are facing serious questions after The Athletic released a major article about a reported toxic culture inside the club. Amongst the allegations are powerful cliques of players, and an aging undroppable core of players. It's no surprise that a young player like Jenna Nighswonger (who has been getting no playing time) is already looking to leave the club after only a year in London. Despite their Champions League win last season over Barcelona, Arsenal have struggled in the Women's Super League and Champions League so far this season. Now, The Athletic thinks they know why. Allegedly, fame has gotten to some players heads and manager Renée Slegers doesn't have control of the locker room. No names are released, but older/underperforming players like Beth Mead, Katie McCabe, Steph Catley, and Caitlin Foord all fit the bill.
