Semiconductor Memories: ROM Explained | Types of ROM | Applications of ROM
In this video, the basic structure of ROM (Read Only Memory), different types of ROM and the applications of the ROM is explained. The following topics are covered in the video: 0:00 Introduction 1:44 Basic Structure of ROM 7:14 Types of ROM 12:44 Application of ROM For more information related to Semiconductor Memories, check these videos: 1) RAM (Random Access Memory) Explained : • Semiconductor Memories: RAM (Random Acces... 2) Memory Decoding in RAM: • Semiconductor Memories : RAM - Memory Deco... 3) SRAM vs DRAM: • SRAM vs DRAM : How SRAM Works? How DRAM Wo... Read Only Memory: The Read Only Memory is non-volatile memory, which is used to store the instructions and the data which is critical for the device operation. As its same suggest, it is a read only memory, meaning that the CPU can read the data from the memory but it cannot alter the existing data. But now a days, the commercially available ROMs are Read Mostly Memory (RMM). Meaning that, mostly it is used for reading the data, but when required it is also possible to perform the write operations. Types of ROM: 1) Masked ROM 2) PROM (Programmable ROM) 3) EPROM (Erasable and Programmable ROM) 4) EEPROM (Electrically Erasable and Programmable ROM) During the discussion of the different types of ROMs, the Flash Memory is also explained. The Flash Memory is one type of EEPROM, which is used to store the data. There are two types of Flash Memories. 1) NAND Flash Memory 2) NOR Flash Memory The NAND Flash Memory is used in USB flash drives and SSDs. NOR Flash Memory is used to store the BIOS firmware for the computer system. This video will be helpful to all the students of science and engineering in understanding the Read Only Memory (ROM) and the types of ROM. #allaboutelectronics #digitalelectronics #rom semiconductormemories Support the channel through membership program: / @allaboutelectronics -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow my second channel: / @allaboutelectronics-quiz Follow me on Facebook: / allaboutelecronics Follow me on Instagram: / all_about.electronics -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music Credit: http://www.bensound.com
