After an unforgettable morning in Srinagar, enjoying the incredible hospitality and a delicious Kashmiri meal hosted by our dear friend Imran, we finally began our drive towards Kargil—but by the time we left, it was already 2:30 PM. As we drove deeper into Kashmir, the scenery unfolded in breathtaking bursts—snow-capped peaks, emerald valleys, and glistening rivers blending into a surreal, postcard-perfect panorama. Our destination for the day was Kargil via the legendary Zojila Pass—one of the most dangerous and breathtaking mountain passes in India. But nature had other plans. By the time we reached Sonamarg, authorities had stopped all traffic towards Zojila due to an avalanche warning. With the pass officially closed and the clock nearing 6:30 PM, there was simply no way forward. Stranded in Sonamarg. With no option left, we searched for a place to spend the night and discovered one of the most beautiful surprises of this entire journey—Four Points by Sheraton Sonamarg, offering spectacular glacier views and one of the most scenic luxury stays we’ve experienced on this expedition. Sometimes, the unplanned moments become the most memorable. As the sun dipped behind the Himalayan peaks, Sonamarg wrapped us in a quiet, unforgettable glow.
