In this food adventure, I explore some of the city’s most famous dishes, including Biryani, Nihari, Shrimp Karahi, and fresh seafood, visiting legendary local spots that have been serving hungry customers for decades. My journey begins at Al Rehman’s Biryani, one of Karachi’s most popular biryani destinations. Known for its unique serving style, the rice is mixed right in the pot before revealing flavorful chicken, potatoes, and aromatic spices. Served with raita, fresh lemon, and salad, it’s easy to see why locals love it. Next, I visit Javed Nihari, a Karachi institution with more than 45 years of history. Their rich Nihari is made with tender veal, bone marrow, brain, and a deeply flavorful gravy, finished with fresh chilies and lemon and served with hot tandoor bread. The food tour continues at Rashid Seafood Restaurant, where I try delicious Shrimp Karahi and fresh local fish. The Shrimp Karahi is cooked over high heat with tomatoes, ginger, spices, and juicy shrimp, while the fish is served fresh with local bread and raita.
