Movie Theaters are Dying (But it's Not Your Fault)

People have been saying for a long time that movie theaters are dying off, and although it took a while to happen, now it's for realsies. You may want to blame the pandemic or even the writers and actors strikes (which you shouldn't), but those were just more salt in the wound. The death of the movie theater has been on the cards for a while now, and despite 33 of the top 50 grossing movies of all time being made in the past 10 years alone, screens have been shutting down around the world at an astonishing rate. Actual movies aren't dying, but they're becoming less appealing to audiences, and unlike in the recent past, throwing hundreds of millions of dollars into the pot for marketing and budgets doesn't guarantee a hit anymore. So who's to blame for this, and what can be done? If it's not the fault of the audience, then whom?
