Making the Cozy Studio Ghibli Bento in Real Life 🍱 | Umi's Lunch Box (From Up on Poppy Hill)
Studio Ghibli food always looks incredibly comforting and delicious, so today, we are bringing it to life! 🍱✨ In this video, I am recreating Umi Matsuzaki’s cozy, aesthetic lunch box from the beautiful Studio Ghibli film, From Up on Poppy Hill (コクリコ坂から). Umi makes packing a Japanese bento box look so effortless and filled with love, and I wanted to capture that exact warm, nostalgic feeling in the kitchen today. We are making all the classic components of Umi's bento: a perfectly sweet and fluffy Tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelet), seasoned blanched spinach (Ohitashi), sizzling bento sausages, and a savory Okaka stew. Finally, we'll pack it all together just like the anime and do a taste test to see if Studio Ghibli food tastes as magical as it looks! Let me know in the comments: What is your all-time favorite Studio Ghibli movie, and what Ghibli food should I recreate next? 🌱🍳 Umi’s Lunch Box Bento (From Up on Poppy Hill) Tamagoyaki Ingredients: 4 eggs Dashi powder to taste Mirin to taste A pinch of salt Oil Instructions: 1. Whisk the eggs thoroughly with the dashi powder, mirin, and salt until well combined. 2. Heat a thin layer of oil in a tamagoyaki pan over medium-low heat. 3. Pour a thin layer of the egg mixture into the pan, swirling it to cover the bottom. 4. Once the egg is lightly set but still soft, carefully roll it up to one side of the pan. 5. Apply another thin layer of oil to the empty space, pour in more egg mixture, and lift the rolled egg slightly so the new liquid flows underneath. 6. Repeat the rolling process and continue adding layers until all the egg mixture is used. 7. Remove the rolled omelet from the pan, let it cool slightly, and slice it into uniform bite-sized pieces. --- Sausage Ingredients: Sausages Oil Instructions: 1. Heat a small amount of oil in a pan over medium heat. 2. Add the sausages and fry them for about 1 minute, rolling them occasionally until they are heated through and lightly browned on all sides. --- Japanese Spinach Salad with Sesame Dressing Ingredients: 1 bunch fresh spinach, washed and trimmed 1 tbsp sesame seeds 2 tbsp soy sauce 1 tbsp sesame oil 1 tsp mirin Salt to taste Optional: sugar and minced garlic to taste Instructions: 1. Bring a pot of water to a boil and blanch the fresh spinach for about 1 minute. 2. Immediately transfer the blanched spinach to a bowl of ice water to stop the cooking process and preserve its bright green color. 3. Drain the spinach thoroughly and gently squeeze out all excess water with your hands. 4. Cut the squeezed spinach into bite-sized lengths and place it into a mixing bowl. 5. In a small pan, lightly toast the sesame seeds until fragrant, then crush them slightly if desired. 6. Add the toasted sesame seeds, soy sauce, sesame oil, mirin, and salt to the spinach. You can also add a pinch of sugar and minced garlic here if you like. 7. Toss everything together until the spinach is evenly coated with the dressing. --- Okaka Stew Ingredients: Katsuobushi (bonamito flakes) Soy sauce A splash of water Oil or leftover fat from frying the sausages Instructions: 1. Heat up your pan using a light spray of oil, or simply use the leftover oil and savory fat remaining in the pan after frying the sausages. 2. Add the katsuobushi flakes directly into the hot pan. 3. Pour in the soy sauce along with a small splash of water to loosen the mixture. 4. Stir and cook briefly over low heat until the liquid reduces and the bonito flakes are thoroughly seasoned and coated. --- Plating Instructions: 1. Arrange a bed of fluffy rice in your bento box. 2. Neatly place the sliced tamagoyaki, the browned sausages, the seasoned spinach salad, and a portion of the savory okaka stew side by side on top of the rice to recreate Umi's classic morning bento. ---- TIMESTAMPS: 00:00 Intro: Making an Anime Bento Box 00:18 Preparing the Tamagoyaki Mixture 01:40 How to Cook Tamagoyaki (Japanese Rolled Omelet) 03:14 Japanese Spinach Salad Recipe (Ohitashi) 05:24 Cooking the Japanese Bento Sausages 06:08 Making the Savory Okaka Stew 06:48 Assembling the Anime Bento Box 08:56 Taste Test: Does Anime Food Taste Good? --------------------- Support us at Patreon : / delishtube Crave for More?
