MSFS: How to Use Autopilot (G1000) - Full Flight in 15 Steps (by REAL PILOT)
If you're struggling to simply get from point A-B in FS2020, don't worry! This simple tutorial will help build your confidence. I walk you through each tiny step of the process to fly this simple, 28-mile flight from Paine Field airport (KPAE) to SeaTac airport (KSEA) in the G1000 Cessna 172. In only 5 minutes? Yup. I made this tutorial as quick and efficient as possible for you. Don't be afraid to use your pause button to take it at your own pace. 😉 The actual duration of the flight is around 15 minutes. My goal is that you can use the autopilot down to runway 16L as easily as possible, using the ILS and no flaps. In the future, you can try experimenting with different runways, autopilot modes, etc. For now, try to stick with the plan. This flight tutorial is designed as a 15 step "recipe," without all the accompanying explanations and rationale. To understand more of what is behind each step, you can download a FREE expanded tutorial guide at https://flightsimcoach.com/tutorial/ ⚠️ Please use the same airports and runways if you want to achieve the same results. ⚠️ This tutorial assumes you're familiar with the basic aircraft controls on your joystick/yoke, such as the elevator, aileron, rudder, throttle controls, and how to adjust the views. The first built-in lesson in FS2020 is a good way to learn all of this. ⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTE: This tutorial presents a highly simplified procedure designed to help new flight simmers get from A to B as easily as possible. It is not intended as a reference for real-world flight training. For example, I engage the autopilot shortly after takeoff at a low altitude to reduce workload - in the real-world Cessna 172 with GFC 700, the autopilot must be disengaged below 800 feet AGL during non-approach operations (and below 200 feet AGL during approaches). Always consult your aircraft's AFM/POH and a qualified flight instructor for real-world training. 00:00 - Setting up the flight 00:35 - Setting up the G1000 00:54 - Takeoff 01:24 - Setting up autopilot 02:17 - Intercepting the ILS 03:25 - Starting descent 04:13 - Disengage autopilot and land Join our Discord community of dedicated flight simmers and real-world pilots/flight instructors: / discord #fs2020 #microsoftflightsimulator #msfs2020 #msfs #msfs2024
